AusVeg International Women’s Day Luncheon

Celebrating Women in Horticulture

By Amanda Gould

On 4 March, I had the pleasure of attending the AusVeg International Women’s Day Luncheon, an event dedicated to celebrating the incredible contributions women make across the horticulture industry.

Representing Victoria and Gippsland

I was fortunate to attend alongside three outstanding horticulture representatives from Victoria and Gippsland: Katie Zagami (Avagrow Farms), Bridie De Kunder (Bulmer Farms), and Maria Cafra (Cafresco Organics). The event provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with other women from across the vegetable industry, share experiences, and celebrate the strength, resilience and leadership of women working throughout the sector.

Inspiring Insights from Jackie Felgate

A true highlight of the day was an inspiring presentation from guest speaker Jackie Felgate, whose engaging and honest discussion resonated strongly with attendees.

Jackie spoke about leadership, resilience and the importance of backing yourself — messages that closely align with the many challenges and opportunities women face in agriculture today.

Building Networks and Celebrating Leadership

Events like this play an important role in recognising the achievements of women in horticulture while also strengthening the networks that support future leaders in the industry.

It was a fantastic day of connection, inspiration and celebration, and wonderful to see such strong representation from Gippsland and Victorian growers.
