New series of webinars coming: Farming in a low carbon economy
In what can be a dynamic and uncertain space, it’s good to hear some insights from those who are willing to share their experience of farming in a low carbon economy. After a well-received round of webinars last year, the AusIndustry Entrepreneurs’ Programme, in partnership with stakeholder groups in Gippsland, have secured speakers for another series which is specifically tailored to audiences in eastern Gippsland.
US vegetable growers visit Gippsland
When a delegation of American vegetable farmers recently visited Victoria for a two-week study tour, they found they had much in common with their fellow growers in Gippsland. Hailing from Ohio, Oregon and Idaho, the group of growers, academics and industry representatives came to learn about the vegetable supply chain in Victoria, from soil cultivation to harvest, irrigation, horticultural practices, pest management and weed control, through to value-adding and processing for wholesale and retail markets.
Gippsland Smart Specialisation showcase: sharing innovation
Supported by regional and rural Victoria, the Latrobe Valley Authority (LVA) coordinated a Smart Specialisation (S3) showcase in South Gippsland late last year. More than 70 stakeholders and partners from across the state met over two days, to learn about how the S3 methodology is applied in the LVA’s work across the region in collaboration with their partners.
Industrial hemp and vertical farming offer innovative possibilities
Vertical farming and industrial hemp are two sustainable industry opportunities currently being scoped for the Gippsland region. Their development is being researched, defined and delivered on as part of the Gippsland Smart Specialisation Strategy’s food and fibre stream.
