Modelling to assist Gippsland farmers prepare for drought
Indicators for measuring and forecasting the extent and severity of drought impacts are being developed at national level, with projected benefits for the Australian agricultural sector. Crop yields, pasture growth and farm business outcomes will be the focus of ‘outcome-based’ drought indicators, which translate climate data into specific agricultural impacts. Food & Fibre Gippsland is working in specific areas that help to plan for drought cycles within our region.
Informed and Supported Workers Program for Gippsland (ISW-G)
Food and Fibre Gippsland (FFG) was successful in obtaining a grant from the State Government to implement a support program for seasonal workers throughout the Gippsland horticulture industry. The program is titled ‘Informed and Supported Workers – Gippsland’ (ISW-G).
Victoria Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub - Gippsland update
Food & Fibre Gippsland is the node provider for the Victorian Drought Hub program.
The Victorian Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub is one of eight national hubs funded by the Australian Government to enhance drought preparedness and resilience through economic, environmental, and community initiatives. The Hub's focus was expanded beyond drought resilience to include broader agricultural innovation. We, in Gippsland, develop a range of projects which focus on demonstrating existing and new approaches to building drought resilience across the agricultural and horticultural supply chains.
This update provides details of one such project.

Food and Fibre Gippsland members Wilco Droppert & Sandra Jefford own and run a dairy farm and will be hosting the on-farm half of the day.
