Supporting Seasonal Workers

Throughout 2021, Food & Fibre Gippsland collaborated with a range of industries across the region to highlight the diversity of roles on offer.

With a number of Australia’s leading vegetable growers located across Gippsland, our This is My Job Series, has a large focus on horticulture.

SWISP, the Seasonal Worker Program funded by Agriculture Victoria, aims to attract a number of different cultures and nationalities to jobs in the region, and to support this, a selection of the most relevant and content specific videos have been translated into five different languages.

These include;

  • Mandarin Chinese

  • Vietnamese

  • Philippine (tagalog)

  • Tamil

  • Tetum

These informative videos can be viewed below and to access each language, simply click on the CC icon in the bottom right hand corner to bring up the menu of languages.

The selected language will appear in sub titled captions throughout.

We interviewed a number of the region’s leading horticulture business owners and general managers about;

  • what they look for in an employee

  • their view on the expanse of opportunities open to a wide range of skill sets, and how adaptable so many skill sets are across many areas of the business

  • how anyone with the right attitude and work ethic can find secure and consistent work (and an ongoing career if they want) in the industry.

Thanks to the support of Jobs Victoria, there are more jobs that we have profiled in the This is My Jobs series.

Whilst these are the five videos are the only ones selected to be translated so far, there are more roles in horticulture featured here.
