Businesses access export help

Gippsland Connect is a program supported by the Australian Government’s SME Export Hub Grant, and Regional Partnerships-Gippsland.

Food & Fibre Gippsland is implementing the program, supporting close to 20 Gippsland businesses to explore export opportunities.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has made several activities synonymous with exploring export opportunities ( like travelling to the countries you want to export to and meeting potential customers face to face ) logistically impossible, but pivoting to online has proven successful in establishing and growing connections.

New support payments announced

The Victorian Government has announced a range of new supports to bolster communities and businesses most affected by the current restrictions.

An injection of $282.5 million means 90,000 businesses and sole traders will now share in up to $484.3 million in support for the 12 days of the current restrictions.

COVIDSafe for Business

Run by locals for locals, a series of practical workshops are being offered by Regional Development Victoria (RDV) to help Gippsland businesses get a fast and simple outline of the current COVID requirements for workplaces, worksites and businesses.

Starting Tuesday 27 July, sessions will be run online to keep businesses informed as requirements change.

These sessions are designed to give a short, sharp overview so people can get back to spending time and energy on their business!

Uni Industry placement program success

To provide students with real-life experience, Federation University offers a six-month Industry Placement Program (IPP) where a suitably matched student is placed within an organisational setting that aligns with their chosen area of study or interest. For the past 6 months the F&FG team has been joined by Elena Nauta, a final year Bachelor of Food Science student from Federation University, who has worked primarily on the Sustainable Emerging Commodities opportunity stream within the Gippsland Smart Specialisation Strategy (GS3), focussing on Insects and Seaweed as new industry opportunities for the region.
