Meet the Finalists - Omnia Specialties Australia

   Tuesday 17th November, 2020

Brown coal reserves in the Gippsland Basin are the richest sources of humic acid in the world. Omnia Specialities Australia was formed in 2003 and based its operations at Morwell. The company is a world leader in using brown coal reserves to develop and manufacture speciality fertilisers and bio stimulants. The business manufactures an impressive volume of high-quality soil and crop nutrition products per annum.

Products are exported to over 30 countries worldwide and sold in every state of Australia, with key export markets in the USA, India, South East Asia, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Middle East.

Their acheivements have been recognised by the Excellence in Agribusiness Awards judges this year with Omnia claiming two finalist places - one in the Excellence in Exporting Award sponsored by South Gippsland Shire Council and the other in Excellence in Collaborative Partnerships, sponsored by TAFE Gippsland.

The success of Omnia’s operations is underpinned by a substantial innovation program. The company has a team of agronomists in the north and south of the African and American continents, in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

This network provides “feet on the farm” and real time intelligence of local soil quality, farming systems and crops being produced so that Omnia ensures its product offering is directly tailored to specific needs of the customer.

Together with organic certification, the humic acid products are bringing a “softer” chemistry to the fertiliser market, ensuring a strong commitment to greater environmental sustainability in agricultural production systems.

In the past year export sales have increased 40% and Omnia. By volume India remains the company’s single largest export destination and continues to grow.

Due to the rigorous import standards in the USA and Europe, Omnia has commenced product trials and registrations which will provide new opportunities in 2021. In the Middle East, Omnia have engaged with two fertiliser companies to provide humic-coating for their products.

Humic-coating reduces volatilisation and leeching of these products leading to improved nutrient uptake and environmental footprint. Again, these are examples of Omnia proactively tailoring product offering to specific export market conditions.

Manufacturer claims for the bio-activity of carbon based fertilisers can vary depending on the test method used. Omnia have used the internationally recognised Californian Department of Food & Agriculture Regulatory Services Division to independently certify the concentration and quality of their products.

Omnia also have partnered with Federation and Monash Universities for new product development and to look for more innovative uses of carbon. Omnia are also embedded in the future development of a Gippsland Carbon Innovation Hub.

Omnia Specialities Australia is a unique organisation in Gippsland’s agribusiness sector. It takes a globally unique resource and value adds that resource so that it is sought after by global customers.

Since 1990 they have been an Australian and global leader in the development and manufacture of speciality fertilisers and bio-stimulants including Humates, Fulvates and Kelp products. In addition to fertilisers, their full range of Trace Elements, Biostimulants and Plant Health products are used globally to improve crop health, yields and improve soil health in a sustainable and environmentally conscious way.

Award winners will be revealed on Friday November 20 at 6pm online via this website.
